Whether you plan to purchase an RV for the on-the-road lifestyle or you want something comfortable for your summer camping plans, there are a few things to consider before you make your purchase.

Here are some tips for buying your first RV.

Understand the Different Sizes

If you’re early on in the RV buying process you may have noticed that there are different classes of motorhomes and recreational vehicles to choose from. It’s important to understand what those all mean and how they’ll affect your purchase. Different sizes will accommodate different needs and also come with varying regulations. For example, Class A RV’s are the largest size out there, they range from 26 to 45 feet long and can weigh up to 30 thousand pounds. You’ll need this size if you plan to haul your car with you, have a washer and dryer hookup on board, and want all the bells and whistles.

The smaller version, Class B RVs are more like campervans and weigh only up to 9 thousand pounds. You cannot store nearly as much stuff but they are also great on fuel use and easy to drive and park.

Be sure to choose your space requirements wisely. You don’t want to be on either side of the spectrum realizing you actually needed more room than you bought or that you purchased a giant RV you didn’t need.

Consider Use

Early on in the process, before you make plans to purchase an RV, it’s important to take inventory of how you’ll be using the vehicle. Will it be something you want to last for years and depend on for many miles throughout the years. Will it be something that you use just one time a year and if so, where will you store it when not in use.

Factor in Insurance

In addition to the price of your new purchase, it’s wise to set aside funds for maintenance, upkeep, and upgrades, and do not forget to also factor in insurance. Insuring your RV will give you peace of mind knowing you have coverage for the types of incidents that could occur in these vehicles. Typical collision, comprehensive policies are a given, but additional campsite and vacation coverages or other towing and roadside can also be added.

Speak to an agent at Petruzelo Insurance about insuring your RV today!

There’s nothing quite like hitting the open road with your family in tow and taking all of the amenities you need to feel comfortable along with you.
