Water Park Safety Tips to Keep Summer Fun

Summertime in New England has its share of fun and beauty. From beautiful shoreline beach towns to scenic escapes into breath-taking forestry, there is a myriad of trips you can plan with the family. One thing many people across the state enjoy at least once (or for or multiple visits) over the summer is a trip to the water park. Especially with the heatwave happening here in CT, water parks are like a high demand destination at the moment.

While the best memories can happen over the summer, there is also a risk with water parks not only for children but adults as well. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind so your summer is nothing but fun.

Always Watch Kids

Even if you’re confident in your child’s ability to swim at your home pool, water parks can get hectic and it’s critical that you always keep an eye on your child when they are swimming or sliding down water slides into deep bodies of water. It takes only a moment to lose control and be held under the water for too long. If you’re unsure about swimming capabilities it’s best to use an approved life vest and only stay in areas where a life guard is on duty.

Choose the Correct Attire

As you’re likely already aware, a trip to a water park requires a small carry-on. In addition to brining a bathing suit and towel, you should plan to have a set of dry clothes and loose clothing to cover up and protect from the sun throughout the day. Consider also packing a hat, sunglasses and water shoes. Baby’s in diapers should use water proof diapers and should not be taken into the water with diarrhea as diseases can easily spread.

Know the Rules

While many basic rules for pool side behavior are commonly known, it’s important to read and listen to the rules at the specific location when visiting. This is especially true when lifeguards are speaking or providing instructions. Other important information about height requirements and age rules will also save you time and frustration if you’re aware of them in advance.

If you’re heading out to cool off, there are a few options right here in Connecticut like Brownstone, Quassy and Lake Compounce as well as the famous “Six Flags” location just over the border in MA. These locations bring in loads of traffic and people looking to enjoy the rides, games, food the water.
