Back to school season has arrived. After an uncertain 2020, many school districts are headed back to in-person learning and this year’s back-to-school season feels especially nostalgic. If you’re getting your young children or even older teens ready to get back to school, there’s more than book bags and new pencils to think about. It’s important to also consider insurance coverages that can keep you all protected as we move into the 2021/2022 academic year.
Renter’s Coverage
Any college-aged students living off-campus should have renter’s insurance. Even if the landlord already has an insurance policy, that will only cover the dwelling, not personal possessions or liability. With renters insurance you’ll have protection in case a fire or other disaster occurs, it will cover items that are lost or stolen including laptops!
Personal Property Coverage
Speaking of pricey electronics, this is also a great time to review your homeowner’s policy. Some may offer coverage for property owned by an insured – such as a student’s property they have with them at the dorm if the damage that occurs is caused by a covered peril.
Auto Discounts for Students!
If you have a student driver this year, be sure to ask about discounts that apply. Driver’s aged 16-24 can qualify for things like Good Student discounts if they are students and have a 3.0 or better grade point average.
