spring sunrise

This Sunday, March 10 is Daylight Savings. That means we’ll get an extra hour of sunlight and even more importantly, it means the spring season is nearing!

For anyone who isn’t a fan of the snowy New England weather, this is the time of year when things start getting better. Flowers begin to bud and opening the windows for a fresh breeze is a possibility.

While you’re setting your clock ahead, it’s also the perfect time to think about how you’ll spend the extra hour of your night to increase productivity levels.

Here are some tips.

Get in Some Exercise

Getting home after a full day of work and activities will now present more daylight and that means you can spend the extra time outside enjoying the weather and being active. We spend so much of our time sitting in chairs in front of computers that the fresh air and elevated heart rates are of extreme importance. Take your dog for a walk, go to the park with the kids or garden and do some activities that you enjoy.

Tidy Up and Organize

The spring is also synonymous with cleaning up clutter gathered over the winter months. Spend some of the extra time added to the days handling those tasks. If you break them down into smaller, more manageable bouts of cleaning and organizing it will be less of a chore and you’ll feel more focused and centered.

Make Time for Enjoyment

While clearing clutter and getting in much needed physical activity is certainly a great way to make use of extra daylight, one of the most important things you can do for stress relief and to create more intimate bonds with family and friends is to make time for things you enjoy. Create memorable experiences and find a way to reconnect with people and places. Put down the devices, breathe the fresh outdoor air and learn to enjoy the moment. This will have profound effects on other areas of your life.
